Jason.C - Project 2: Hermitage V1
Version 1 of my Hermitage
This is the base of my hermitage. It is also the first concept of of the hermitage.
Recombination: Final.
you can find out more here and here.
Making it exposed, I believe enforces the idea of one person experience of freedom, exposure and openness. It also challenges a person sense adventure and exploration
The location also enforces my idea. it is on the roof, it creates an experience of height, and exposure.
what do you think?

Recombination: Final.
The idea of this first concept came from the final recombination. The idea came from the form. the form of the recombination have an appearance of an object in flight.
The layout/ placement of mass meant that there was little in a sense of closure - it is every open. The defined space are difficult to identify.
Having this theme in mind i went back and researched words to describe flight and its association to human emotions.
These are the words i think explains the inspiration in creating this concept: peace, freedom, free, exposure, soar, float, exploration, open and adventure.
This is the result. The concept is very "modernist" in form. the whole herminate is made up of 3 cube/ rectangular shapes. it is very exposed/ open as all of the walls and roof is glazed.
Before having this idea i was quite interested in exploring the use of switchable glass. What it is basically is glass that has the ability to become opaque when electric current runs through it.

Jason.C - Project 2: Descriptive Geometry & Recombination
apologies for my huge delay in posts. i past weeks was a nightmare with blogger with uploading - maybe its my internet. anyways it works now so yeah!
Anyways these are the resulting shapes of my descriptive geometry
please download from link above.
Plaster Model 2 |
Plaster Model 1 |
From the Resulting Geometry shapes the recombination of shapes to form an inhabitable space was formed. It was just a case of trail and error until i got something i could run with for the next part.
Recombination Model: V1.
Recombination Model: V2
Recombination Model: Final
The next part is creating a hermitage. i have used the idea of this final form as a base for the Hermitage design. this shall be explained further in the next part.

Wall Detail - Andrew Frankum
As i came to the end off my project, and had the urge to make a model (after spending hours on the sectional perspective) and so i made a 1:1 detail of the wall and the join between the walls.
When scaling up my 1:20 model of the project i found my walls to be about 50mm thick. in the wall i have used 40mm x 30mm timber in a the wall and 4 mm alluminium composite panel on both the interior and exterior.
I had considerd painting the screws to give the wall a more similar appearane to my model however i think the screws give the building a more "raw appearance that would compliment the "raw" wood lining the interior joins. i also like think the screws are important as they would make the wall more realistic.

Jason.C - Project 2: Site Analysis
This is my site analysis of the possible sites. the green pins on each analysis represents the places i have considered and the blue pin represents the chosen site.
Location 1
The site is situated on the roof
Location 2
The site is situated on the wall on the second Floor
Location 3
This site is situated on the wall of the second floor just below the tree
Traffic and sound
Population density
Sun Path
I have selected location 1. i have selected this particular location because of the close proxmity to people, therefore people will notice it. Noise will be an issue however it can be controlled and it is not as annoying as one might think, Sunlight will be an issue though.

Traffic and sound
The red pins with swirls represents the general location in which the sound recording took place. recordings were taken both inside and outside the building throughout the day. the sound in measured in decibels (dB)
Blue lines represents the expected traffic flow around Unitec campus throughout the day. bold blue arrows represents traffic flow on the north western Motorway and the other blue outlined arrow represents traffic flow and direction on Carrington road.
Population density
This is a close up of unitec campus focusing on building one. the red dots are the population density around the area throughout the week.
Sun Path
These is the sun path you would expect it to be on each of the three sites. they shows the dates, time of sunrise and sunset, its location in relation to the building true north position, and the height of the sun at noon. (this is measued in degrees °)
