Shayal Chandra - Project 1 - Week 2: Primitives

 Hello :)
In the images below i have taken my final contour drawing from week 1 to create a geometrical primitive to make into a more refined contour drawing. Below you can see the steps that i have taken.

The images above show a selection of my draft primitive contour drawings. I have tried to create depth and balance with curvy, harder and softer lines. It was difficult to create a refined contour with geometric shapes as my ink blob was more circular and curvier.


Refined Final Contour
In my final refined contour i have used mostly circles, curves and arcs, and  also fine line weights that brings out the outline of my ink klecky shape in detail. I have also added some triangular angles to show the sharpness of geometric shapes. 



3D Trial Shapes

I have used a Tetrahedron for my final model so that all the circular and curvier shapes in my refined contour will stand out in a sharp triangular 3D shape.

Final Acetate Primitive Contour 3D Model

As seen above is my final 3D model with primitive contour printed on an acetate. It is a triangle base pyramid. The use of acetate is showing all the angles of the shape as it is transparent and also you can see the different planes from different angles. The line weight of the primitive contour creates depth from all angles.


Charrettes

The two images below is showing the idea of communicating with balance and dominant.


Positive and negative balance
This first image shows balance between each other and the use of line weight is very similar which tells us that they are equally evened out. It clearly shows the positive and negative space in both semi circles. The negativity in the other half is very clear but it does not overshadow the positive space which makes  them balance.


Positive and negative dominant
This second image is very vibrant and sharp. It looks like a broken glass which has been divided into two pieces where one side of it is very clear, clean and looks empty but is still very sharp, where as the other half has a fine sharpness to it and reflects darkness through depth. It's communicating a very strong idea of dominance with the dark shadows and it over powers the whole image.


 
Background, mid-ground, fore-ground

In the Charrette above we had to create a background, mid ground and fore-ground by dividing the lines into spaces. In this i have used hatching and cross hatching by over lapping them all on top of each other. The line weights in all three vary from each other and creates a sense of depth.
