Danielle Fitzsimmons, Project One, Week Three

This is my acetate model. My paper, wood and wire models are designed in relation to this model. They are all restricted to the basic shape and outlook of the diamond primitive but each express differences; such as influence of media malleability, strength, density and ideas through the contouring on the acetate model.

My Paper  model was influenced by the darker lined contours, how the groupings had their long curved parts spread out. I used this feature of the contour by warping, duplicating and connecting each one to others and through others. This technique I found created overlap and shadows over each interior parts allowing an applied space be available in between and through the long curved  parts and the layers as well.

In being the most time consuming and difficult to construct, I found the wood model to be most successful in representing space and depth. Through following the lighter lines of the acetate model and emphasising the angularity of the contours, I found the lines as individual stand simply, but when connected and interconnected, become much more complex and elegant. Through the angular and sharp applied spaces, you see the depth being created with overlap and shadow which allows the observer to overcomplicate the structure.

With the wire being the easiest to navigate and bend to my imagination, I found this model to be swift and fluid. With wire being very linear and thin, I realised it to be a bit more difficult to capture space and depth. My strategy with wire was to focus on the hard line contours and bend the wire to their form, then to create the structure by composing the copied contours, not only on the exterior, but also interiorly. The built interior holds the structure together by balance.
